Organ & Piano Recital March 26 @2:00 p.m.

David DeAngelis, organist at St. Matthew’s, and friend, Sam Post, will perform in an organ and piano recital on March 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Sam Post is a pianist, composer and teacher living in Washington, DC. He made his recital debut at age 14 with an all-Bach program, and in high school performed as a soloist with the Georgetown Symphony, the Washington Bach Consort and the National Symphony Orchestra. Forced away from the piano in college due to injury, he played varsity soccer, directed a production of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, and graduated summa cum laude from Yale with the senior essay prize in physics. Returning to piano, he continued his studies at Northwestern, winning numerous Chicago area competitions.

Recently, Sam joined the piano and chamber music faculty at Washington’s Levine Music, recorded his first two studio albums, and won first prize at the Wonderlic Piano Competition and honorable mention at the Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition. His recordings of his own compositions and of Bach’s Goldberg Variations (along with lecture/commentary and demonstrations) are now available on iTunes, Amazon, and CDbaby. He is also a founding member of the Purple Line Trio (with Josh Paulus (French horn) and Tara Lynn Ramsey (violin), finalists at the recent J.C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competition.

David DeAngelis started as organist at St. Matthew’s in January of 2013.  He is currently the band and choir director at KIPP San Francisco College Prep High School, which opened in the fall of 2013. Prior to taking that position, he worked at Google in Mountain View, CA and taught music at Lee High School in Marianna, AR. When he’s not teaching, David plays keyboards in the San Francisco based rock band Dangermaker. David received his B.A. in music from Yale University in 2008, where he studied piano under Elizabeth Parisot and played in both the Yale Symphony Orchestra and Yale Precision Marching Band
