Interested in becoming a member? Come and check us out during one of our Sunday worship services! Let our pastor know you are there and have a little chat with her. She will tell you all you want to know (and much more).
Once you decide to join St. Matthew’s, you commit to the following: to participate in Holy Communion at least once during the church year, and to make at least one ‘financial contribution of record’ (that means, we need to know who made the contribution – that’s why we have offering envelopes, on which contributors write their names).
Although we worship in German, we are not affiliated with the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). St. Matthew’s is a congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). As such, we are a not-for-profit institution. Members participate actively in the life and policies of the congregation. Each year, they are invited to come to our annual meetings and vote on issues like the budget and lay church leadership.
For people formerly affiliated with the church in Germany: As a member of St. Matthew’s, you are eligible to become a baptismal sponsor in Germany or have your child baptized in a German church.
