As the days grow shorter and the nights stretch long, the church enters one of its most beautiful and often misunderstood seasons: Advent. Many people think of Advent simply as “pre-Christmas,” a time to prepare decorations, purchase gifts, or count down the days until the holiday celebrations begin. But in the life of the church, Advent is not Christmas. Advent is its own sacred season, rich with meaning, mystery, and invitation.
